It is my greatest honour to take up the responsibility as the Chairman of Young Member Section (YMS) for the 2007/2008 Session. I hereby commit myself to provide our young members our greatest effort and services.
Over the last several years, we have tried a number of strategies hoping to provide our members various types of activities. Now we consolidate our members’ response and will adopt a member-centric strategic framework that will redefine our goal and build a stronger Young Member Section. We consciously decided to focus our strength to be “an inch wide and a mile deep,” rather than being “a mile wide and an inch deep.”
A valuable asset of IMechE Hong Kong Branch is found in the way that we are part of an active international professional body. We work hand-in-hand with engineers from all over the world and we seek to add value to our young members’ international eye-sight and experience.
Our missions:
It’s a wonderful, fantastic feeling to organize some activities that our young members really feel excited about. I think our members really like our activities, and we enjoy organizing them so much. This year, in addition to new sites, we are going to re-visit some of the places welcomed by our members, so other members can visit them in case they missed the first round.
This year we will further strengthen our partnership with other professional institutions and associations to increase our span in the industry and also raise the exposure of our brand as a leading institution for mechanical engineers.
Young members are the moving force behind the YMS. As a young member of IMechE, we are proud that our opinions are valued and we are here to mark our trace and put a dent in the ever-moving timeline. We want all of our young members to move forward and be proactive, and love being an engineer and proud of being a member of IMechE.
We are going to:
As engineers we care about the society, the place we live in. As young engineers we have the heart, and strive to give lights to those who are in difficulties. This is our divine duty being an engineer to make the world a little bit better. Not necessarily what we’ve done get paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.
We will:
With crystal clear vision and strong commitment from every young member, we are going to show the world we are energetic deeds and bright young engineers that we can change the world.
This year, we shall strive to grow stronger and brighter than ever. I believe, we will shine.
